Trackdays

What type of bike do I need for a Trackday?

Any bike over 400cc can be used on a trackday. If it is a road bike it must conform to MOT minimum standards for road use or if it is a track or race bike it should meet the safety regulations of the governing body. All motorcycles should be in good condition and suitable for its intended use on the track. It is your duty to ensure that the motorcycle remains in this condition for the duration of the activity. If you have a rear brake light this must be in working order.

Which bike trackday session should I book into?

As a general rule we wouldn’t recommend that you book into an ‘Open Session’ trackday if this is your first time on track or you have been on less than 3 trackdays at Knockhill. We offer ‘First Timers’ Tracknights for those who are new to track riding and novice and intermediate sessions within selected trackdays throughout the season. If you hold an SACU or ACU race licence you should book into the advanced session or select an Open Session trackday.

What type of licence do I need?

You must produce your licence to participate in any track activity.  No licence = No trackday

Bike Trackdays:

All riders must hold one of the following licences and comply with the relevant regulations in order to take part in a track day:

1) DVLA road licence - must be a fully unrestricted (not provisional) valid driving licence issued by the DVLA (or the equivalent foreign licensing authority in the rider's country of residence) with the appropriate motorcycle category clearly indicated.

2) An SACU or ACU race licence. Race licence holders aged 17 may participate on a motorcycle they are permitted to race as per the (S)ACU regulations (400cc). Licence holders under the age of 17 cannot participate in Trackdays.

Car Trackdays:

Full driving licence

If you forget to bring along your licence, it is possible for us to use the DVLA’s website based licence checking facility. To use this you must be able to provide us with the required information, this includes your driving licence number, National Insurance number and registered address details. Please be aware if we are unable to connect to this service or we cannot provide the DVLA with the required information you will not be able to take part in the trackday.

What are the clothing requirements for Bike Trackdays?

All riders must wear either full leathers or a two-piece leather suit that zips together fully, along with a helmet, boots, and gloves. Helmets must have the gold ACU approved stamp. We recommend leathers as the best protective equipment for track use, some EU-approved Kevlar or textile suits are allowed if they are two-piece and zip together fully.

All trackday riders must wear a full-length back protector, or alternatively, leathers equipped with airbag technology. All equipment must be in good condition and fit for purpose. Our team reserves the right to inspect equipment and deny track access if it does not meet the minimum safety requirements.
