On the 18th of May 1975, motorsport in Scotland changed for ever with the opening car race meeting at Knockhill. 50 years later, to the day, this very special event will take all Scottish car racing drivers and fans down memory lane as we celebrate 5 decades of car racing at Knockhill.
This unique weekend will combine a "Best of Scottish" race meeting with both Knockhill Motor Sports Club and SMRC racing championships being given the spotlight on Saturday 17th, but on Sunday 18th May we will be turning the clock back to the heydays of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Scottish champions across the 5 decades will be present, many with their original competition cars on display and on track during special parades and track sessions. The sight and sounds of these iconic race cars will be a trip down memory lane for many.
We are delighted to also be recreating the famous opening ceremony from 1975 with the return of a thunderous Formula 5000, similar to the one that opened the track with Chris Amon at the wheel back in 1975 and a demo by a Footwork F1.

If you’re a Scottish racing champion or own an iconic race car from the 70s, 80s, or 90s, we’d love to hear from you! Please email kmscclub@knockhill.co.uk to let us know if you can attend and whether your car will be available for a static display, parade, or track session.
A valid road license is required for parade participation, and a Motorsport UK RS Clubman’s license is needed for track sessions. The RS Clubman’s license can be easily obtained on the day at no cost, with no medical check required.
On May 18, 2025, Knockhill will celebrate 50 years of Scottish car racing with a special weekend event. Featuring races, nostalgic parades, and appearances by champions and iconic cars from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, it promises to be a trip down memory lane. Highlights include a recreation of the 1975 opening ceremony with a thunderous Formula 5000 car.
